Strip Generator

In this website you don't have a lot of opportunity to create a personal style. One unique capability is adjustable frames. If you need a specific cell to be a bit wider or longer, you can just drag the wall. Another stand-out trait is the personal library. When you tweak an image to get it just right, you can save it to use again later.

ToonDoo

Billed as the world's fastest way to create cartoons, TOONDOO also offers kids an outlet to share their comics. Unlike some cartoon sites, which only allow you to import images, ToonDoo offers an ample library of clip art and the ability to doodle your own pictures. The site also has some nifty ways of encouraging users to participate: In addition to making their own comic, users can also like other creations or add captions to other users' cartoons, if the owner allows it.

Pixton

Kids will create comics in a panel-by-panel (or storyboard) format using tool sets for characters, backgrounds, speech bubbles, and props. Each set has submenus for changing expressions, poses, colors, layering, creating silhouettes, and more. Kids can create original objects, choose from a library, or remix other people's comics into their own. "Boosts" let authors promote their comics, and they can rate others comics as artistic, well-written, or funny. Kids can become fans of other authors and acquire their own -- all displayed on a fan club page.

Make Beliefs Comix

MAKE BELIEFS COMIX, created by author Bill Zimmerman, who has written more than a dozen books on drawing and other topics, offers a fun comics-construction tool for kids; parenting tips; and educator resources for language instruction and special-needs and ESL students. Kids get a detailed explanation about how to use the tool, along with frequent hints and writing prompts; they can choose from predrawn characters, customize their positioning and size, and add objects, background colors, and dialogue. Each character has a few "emotions" to choose from; facial expressions and body language help create a story. Finished comics can be printed or emailed.

Comic Master

Kids can use the COMIC MASTER site, originally designed for British boys age 11-14, to design a short comic or graphic novel. Kids can't customize their comics with uploaded photos or other personalized elements, but the site's drag-and-drop functionality lets them select visual elements from a limited number of backgrounds, posed superhero characters, props, and other elements. They also can add dialogue bubbles and captions. Registered users can save their work or print pages.
